Mitch Stern is attending MacWorld in San Francisco, hoping that distance will help him make sense of his wife’s desertion. He can’t escape the image of returning home from work one typical day and finding white rectangles on the walls where the chronicle of his family’s life once played out in pictures. His body is found a few days later washed up on Ocean Beach. Homicide Detective Mike MacKenzie and Marin County Sheriff’s Deputy May Reeves add Mitch to the list of victims found washed up on beaches in San Francisco and Marin over the past several months. They have no clues. Jim Henderson is a young Silicon Valley executive who meets and falls in love with Elizabeth Leahy, a recent graduate of Boalt Law School. She’s beautiful, brilliant and knows how to get what she wants. Jim is drawn not only to Liz, but to her larger-than-life family and friends. As the relationship matures, Jim begins to suspect that something sinister lies beneath the witty banter, generous parties, and charisma of Liz, her father, and their social set. In this intricate thriller, a young man races to understand the psychological dark sides of his wife and in-laws as the police uncover evidence that may lead them directly into his newfound idyllic world.

I have just finished "The Shadow of God" by Steve Jackowski. It is a superb read. It is an enthralling thriller that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. At first, all appears nice and normal, but then matters slowly spiral out of control, leaving you wondering how the story can possibly come to an end in any meaningful way. There are vivid descriptions of different layers of the "California life style", from bottom to top, including insights into the workings of high tech companies in the Silicon Valley. The author also gives descriptive detail of extreme sports he loves such as hard core hang gliding, surfing and skiing. You are captivated by all the characters, especially the multi-faceted Liz. You will never be able to forget her. Finally, the book deals deftly with mental illness, even though the one in question may be rare and perhaps even non-existent. You begin to wonder about people around you who may seem a little strange. You even ask questions about yourself.

Read "The Shadow of God" now and hope for a screen version soon.

I am now a fan and am reading an earlier Jackowski novel, "The Silicon Lathe" and look forward to future works. In the meantime, I am following his Internet blog with great interest.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this exciting novel.
The author has extreme knowledge of the subjects in his book. The book seems to me to be a memoir and after reading, I have much admiration for Steve. He is very intelligent and is able to share his gifts with others. Keep writing!!!
I don't have a lot of time to read novels and often don't finish the ones I start due to lack of interest. The Shadow of God by Steve Jackowski was different. The story caught me right away and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the twists and turns he eloquently laid out. I particularly enjoyed what felt like the furious race to finish that was the latter half of the book. I look forward to reading other books by Steve Jackowski.
I have to say that I was captured by this book and looked forward to the times I could read it. I found it thrilling and intriguing.
There are some good surprises and twists in this story!
Nice ending. who knows what will happen next ?
A very good thriller !
My brother wrote this book so there were some interesting snippets from our childhood. It was fascinating even though I didn't like the ending.
